Thanks for this really elucidating piece. I have it bookmarked, and now I need to read your earlier posts about the other publishing options. It is quite overwhelming for us introverted writers, but I'd love to see my stories out there so I can't hide behind the sofa! Thank you Karin

Great post, as usual. It’s comforting to have choices. Finding that viable niche…and at the same time writing the stories you truly want to tell…that’s a challenge.

Thanks, Shelley. How lucky are we to live in a time when we can choose our publishing experience.

Everything has upsides and downsides. Better to look at the upsides.

"But if you’d eventually like to make real money from your books and you have an entrepreneurial spirit, self-publishing is likely your best bet." -- Well said and so true. I love this post!

Great post. I do think Barbra Freethy should be high on that list of successful indie writers. She was one of the first to seize the model and make it work, becoming a millionaire many times over. She continues to publish several books a year. She’s a smart, driven writer, and worth studying.

Every self published author I ever met says they chose to self publish. But let's be honest. Self publishing chose them.

I respectfully disagree. I know authors who have turned down traditional deals to self-publish.

Thanks Karin I've met those authors too. But don't forget fiction doesn't end with the writing : )

Thank you, Philip and what a great question. I’m planning an AI article soon. I don’t have enough info yet to answer this properly yet. It’s already a problem but authors who tend to take shortcuts with content tend to do so in other ways like covers and descriptions so hopefully most readers won’t be taken in.
